Notable Quote Series #2 : Featuring Tim Draper

Welcome to my second notable quote series post!! I have an interesting quote from Tim Draper. This quote is taken from the seventh episode of the StartUp-U series on ABC Family. Draper is the founder of Draper University and the show centers around the journey that his entrepreneurial students experience at Draper University.
“sometimes the greatest resource isn’t money, it’s enthusiasm” – Tim Draper

This is an excellent quote to be considered from a notable entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Money is extremely important in business, but the truth of the matter is that it isn’t everything that matters. Draper’s quote emphasizes that enthusiasm is an important resource as it can fuel an entrepreneur to success. An unenthusiastic entrepreneur will simply use money to make moves without thinking much of it, but an enthusiastic entrepreneur will look to put forth more effort and really make a difference regardless of the financial situation.

Notable Quote Series #1 : Featuring Zig Ziglar

As a new series on this blog, I would like to feature notable quotes by professionals. The first quote that I will feature is powerful one!!
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing–that’s why we recommend it daily.” -Zig Ziglar

Let’s analyze the meaning of this quote. Motivation is something that we all, at times, need to be able to accomplish certain tasks. Motivation can be strong and provide you with a drive to power through an assignment or it could wane and prevent you from getting work done. Ziglar, author and motivational speaker, points out that as often as we bathe we should seek out motivation. Bathing habits vary by person but common standards mandate that it should occur once a day. In that case, Ziglar recommends daily motivation. This can help you to find the will power and drive to get the important things done wether desirable or not. This quote is truly inspiring. I look forward to writing more inspirational posts for this blog. Thank you for viewing!

Life lessons learned this summer

Entering the summer of 2015, I did not know what to expect of all the assignments I took on. Did I “bite off more than I could chew?” No! This summer, I learned that I can handle anything. How did I come to that realization?

During the summer, I worked on a variety of activities. To get ahead for my next semester, I decided to enroll in 4 summer classes at Montgomery County Community College. In addition, after one night of browsing through LinkedIn jobs, I found a virtual marketing internship positon, which I simply applied for with my LinkedIn account. I heard back the next day, and the next week I accepted a social media marketing intern position at HR Tech Advisor. I also worked at Wegmans Food Markets for 4 days each week and continued to operate my own mobile notary business independently. I was doing all of this while retaining family responsibilities and trying to enjoy the summer. My responsibilities consumed much more time than I expected this summer, and pushed me to perform at a higher level.

But how did I approach these challenges?

There were 3 main principles that helped me to handle my responsibilities.

1. Establish Priorities

Set priorities by writing out all of the assignments and rank them in order of importance. By doing so, it will help you to ensure that each assignment has been allotted appropriate attention.

2. Time Management

Everyone is given a predetermined amount of hours to use every day. Finding out how to use these hours effectively is the challenge. Once priorities are set, you can determine what assignments will get completed based on time sensitivity. Managing your time also helps you to cut out unimportant tasks that may consume your time and take away from the more important tasks at hand.

3. Practice Perseverance

Everyone has faced rough patches, in which they feel that they want to give up. In times like those it is important to practice perseverance and refuse to give in to hardship. As many entrepreneurs will agree, perseverance is one of the most important principles to develop to prosper in business. Try to focus on the end result and its benefits. In doing so, you will find that it will be easier to find the motivation needed to handle assignments.

In the end of the summer, I can look back and say that I achieved all of my goals. Rewards for my hard work included excellent grades, meeting new people, newly acquired skills, and professional development. I believe that the most important reward would be the self-satisfaction that I have experienced in knowing that now I can achieve more than ever before! This has invigorated me with more motivation than ever to excel in future endeavors. You can experience the same realization by challenging yourself and working to develop prioritization, time management and perseverance principles in your life.

Entrepreneur extraordinaire Robert Herjavec: Leadership style

You may know Robert Herjavec as a leading investor on shark tank or dragons den, or maybe as a dancer on Dancing with the stars. Robert Herjavec is a businessman, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, father of 3 children, venture capitalist, best-selling author, runner, golfer, racecar driver, immigrant and an overall successful man. Robert Herjavec has truly lived a “rags to riches” story that is inspirational to anyone that hears it. He has always been a hard-working, dedicated leader that serves as a role model and mentor to his many followers. His background, occupations, accomplishments, and leadership attributes will be considered.

Herjevac’s story began in Varazdin, Croatia as he was born on September 14, 1963. His family decided to leave to escape communism so he arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1970. His family eventually settled in Toronto, Canada. Toronto is where he grew up and currently conducts business. His family always struggled financially and Robert was determined to be successful regardless of his circumstance. Immigrating to North America was challenging for him and his family. Upon arrival in Canada, his family only had 20 dollars in currency. His family struggled as his father was only making 76 dollars a week. At a young age, Herjevac worked for free to gain work experience. He would later work a variety of minimum wage jobs such as waiting tables, delivering newspapers and retail sales to make a living and support his family.

After high school Herjavec attended New College at the University of Toronto. He studied English literature and political science. Herjevac also worked in multiple production roles and worked his way up to becoming a field producer. In between production jobs, Herjevac started working in the technology industry. It wasn’t his field of study, and he began underqualified but agreed to work for free to gain experience in the industry. After years of hard work and dedication, Herjevac became a general manager at Logiquest, but actually left to start his own internet security software company called BRAK systems. BRAK systems was so successful that AT&T Canada bought it off Herjevac in 2000. After the purchase Herjevac decided to retire to raise his three children as a stay at home dad. He was retired for 3 years until he returned to the business world with a new mission.

Herjevac is the founder and CEO of the Herjevac group that began business in January 2003. The Herjevac group is recognized as a global leader in information security, as it specializes in security services, compliance, incident response and remediation efforts for enterprise level organizations. It is also one of the fastest growing technology companies in North America with over 125 million dollars in sales. The Herjevac group is strong and is continuing to make impactful innovations in its field. Herjevac has also built and sold several information technology companies to larger companies.

Herjevac is also a best-selling author. His two majorly successful books are Driven: How to Succeed in Business and Life and The Will to Win: Leading, Competing, Succeeding. These books are about life principles that have brought Herjevac success and life lessons. Herjevac is also an extremely accomplished racecar driver, as he participated in the popular Ferrari Challenge. Herjevac even won Rookie of the Year in 2011. He is also a car collector, motorcyclist, avid golfer, and runner. On his website a quote from Herjevac states, “You have to stay laser-focused when driving a car over 200 miles an hour, and the same approach is required when growing a business in today’s world of rapidly changing technology.” Herjevac’s most well-known accomplishments have been made known on Dragons Den (2006-2012) and Shark Tank (2010- ). Through these shows Herjevac has invested in many successful companies, taught his Canadian and American audience many business, entrepreneurial and investment principles as well as furthering his rags to riches story as he inspires the audience.

On Dragons Den and Shark Tank he has been known as the nice guy investor. He is often referred to as a “simple Croatian boy”.   He is always looking to help entrepreneurs regardless of whether he decides to invest with them or not. Herjevac always remembers his lowly beginnings, is sympathetic and displays humility as he deals with associates and entrepreneurs. He also always recognizes hard workers and dedicated entrepreneurs and tries to encourage them to continue to work to expand their business. In regards to Herjevac’s leadership style he is, “more [of a] builder than hands-off investor and enjoys mentoring.” Herjevac also mentioned, “”In the few cases from the show where the investment has worked out, I try to get involved and mentor as much as possible. Grease Monkey (as an example) is experiencing phenomenal growth since airing and we try and have conference calls at least every two weeks. Very tough to make the time but often, these small business (sic) need advice much more than they need the money.” So this shows that Herjevac wants to get into the business and do as much as he can to make it successful by manually putting forth effort as opposed to letting the business run by itself. Herjevac would be considered as a Transformational leader since he looks to inspire the people around him. He enjoys providing advice and mentoring entrepreneurs as he works with them. He is also a motivational speaker. He speaks on his path to success and the impact that hard work and drive can have on a person’s life. Herjevac is extremely skilled at speaking and conveying his motivational message to his audience. These points, among many more illustrate why Robert Herjevac is an exceptional leader and businessman.

I love Writing

I absolutely love writing

It is just something that I cannot explain. It is simply something that I am passionate about.

I know that I am not one of  the most talented or experienced writers in the world, but I believe that I have a high potential, and I intend to develop my writing skills. This is one of the main reasons why I have started this blog. The main purposes would be to tell my story, share my works and provide me with a space to practice and sharpen my skills as I gain experience as a writer.

My blog posts will feature stories, poems, essays and articles that I will be producing moving forward. As a business major, with a minor in communications, I believe that I will be writing a significant amount of varied works. The pieces that I post on this blog will be slightly randomized. Some being class assignments, LinkedIn posts or personal statements/stories. I hope to write entertaining pieces for my followers and hopefully inspire. Don’t hesitate to contact me at:

Do you know of “The Great Buffer Machine?”

IMG_3813

It’s Buffer!! Which you may know as the buffer app or website.

I was originally referred to buffer by my manager at HR Tech Advisor, where I am serving as a social media marketing intern. After researching the company and its services, I decided to download the app and try it out. The app serves as a secure and reliable platform at which users can produce and then schedule updates to be posted to various social media accounts including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and etc. But that’s not all! “The Great Buffer Machine” also provides users with suggested content to post to social media accounts with a variety of topics including marketing, inspiration, business & startups and more. Its basic use is entirely free!! After trying it out I saw how useful and practical it is.

One day after successfully gaining followers on Twitter, thanks to Buffer, I tweeted a thank you message to Buffer and appropriately nicknamed them “The Great Buffer Machine” in my tweet. After the tweet was sent, I received a tweet back from Katie at Buffer stating that, “I love that! I think you need some stickers for your machine.” Two weeks later I received 3 stickers and a handwritten card in the mail. All at no cost to me!! I was overjoyed to receive the stickers and the handwritten message that stated that, “It makes me happy that you’re connecting with our message. I’m so thrilled that you’re a part of our community.” This demonstrates that Buffer is a company that cares about their customers and operates with an excellent culture, as highlighted by the values found on the stickers below.

Special thanks to Katie, Nicole and the team for the handwritten letter, stickers and for providing over 2 million content sharers with the power of, “The Great Buffer Machine.”
